We received many complements on our latest model, the Catrike Dumont, at the Interbike trade show last week. The Dumont, which is an all new Catrike, will offer a more spirited ride thanks to an innovative new front suspension, 26” rear wheel, rear suspension, sporty geometry along with our folding feature.
The Dumont, which is named after Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont, features the all-new Catrike Front Suspension. The front suspension creates a more dynamic ride with anti-dive and anti-roll behavior without needing a torsional bar between the front ends of the trike.
With minimum weight and stack height, the advanced suspension system also improves shock absorption, damping qualities and noise vibration harshness (NVH) reduction. It combines Catrike’s award-winning engineering and design with advanced materials and technology, including Cellasto®, a microcellular polyurethane elastomer (MPU) developed by BASF Polyurethanes North America and sold as finished product mainly to the automotive industry.
We’re so passionate about the marriage of design and engineering and are always on the hunt for innovative technologies and materials that can make our trikes even better. We first learned Cellasto’s unique properties while developing our front suspension and knew that we had found the final piece of the puzzle to develop a superior system. Cellasto is far superior to ordinary rubber elastomers, and it is the only material at our level standards to be incorporated in a Catrike.
Front suspension is not the Dumont’s only design innovations. Catrike also redesigned the rear suspension to increase lateral stiffness with a new yoke, yoke pivot, axle and a fully triangulated swing arm. The yoke redesign includes oversized 37mm ball bearings, triangular side tunnels, and underside opening. The result is a 53 percent increase in stiffness. The updated yoke pivot boss now has a 360 degree three axis profile and a 25mm through axle.
Many other features that have been developed over the last several years are incorporated in the new model, including adjustable recline, a premium padded seat, 26-inch rear wheels, folding and strolling capabilities. The Dumont will also share all of the standard accessories and our specified high quality components: computer sensor mount, mirror and mirror mount, clipless pedals, hand rest, chain guard, peace boom, flag and flag holder, SRAM components and Schwalbe tires.

Below is an excerpt with the first two paragraphs of the Wall Street Journal article:
"Tricycles are so hot that some of them are selling for thousands of dollars. But the new three-wheelers aren’t designed for tykes. They’re for grown-ups.
Recumbent tricycles—reclined, cushy versions of the three-wheelers many tooled around on as children—appeal to people of a certain age by being gentler on the body than traditional bikes, and more stable than two-wheel recumbents."
